SPRING ANIME 2016 – FINAL THOUGHTS

The spring shows are wrapping up. I wanted to give my final thoughts on the shows I’ve watched this season. I will not aim to have any spoilers. 😛
MY FAVORITE

Anime: Bungou Stray Dogs Genre: Supernatural, Mystery, Seinen

BUNGOU STRAY DOGS – (Bungō Sutorei Doggusu)

Nakajima was kicked out of his orphanage and left on the street starving. He decides to rob the next person that walks by him. Instead he sees a man drowning in the river and saves him. The man he saves is named Dazai who is suicidal, then comes along Kunikida who is writing in a notepad. They are both members of the Armed Detective Agency. This agency is a special task force that handles crimes that the police or military can not handle. This agency’s members all have special powers. Due to Nakajima saving Dazai and getting to know each other Nakajima soon joins the agency. We also find out that Nakajima has powers as well.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Listen, this is not the “omg you must watch anime”, But I did really enjoy it. It was funny and some action as well. I love the power the characters have. Some things I will point out is that the story was kind of all over the place. I get the Mafia is trying to get Nakajima but too many characters were introduced and you didn’t get to connect with the bad characters. I’m all about bad guys and they barely touched upon the bad guys. But all in all you will laugh for sure.

Anime: Kiznaiver Genre: Sci-fi, Drama

KIZNAIVER (Kizunaībā)

Agata Katsuhira is a high school teen who is unable to feel pain. He was constantly beaten up growing up. But he still didn’t feel any pain. One day a classmate Tenga comes to his rescue and saves him from the bullies. One day Katsuhira is approached by a mysterious emotionless girl named Noriko who tells him that he was selected to become a Kiznaiver because he is unable to feel pain.
They then both connect through Kizuna which allows them to feel each other’s pain. Soon he is then connected with 7 fellow classmates who lives would never link. They all become Kiznaivers.
The goal for Kizuna is to create a peaceful world connecting people through. If one Kiznaiver is wounded the other Kiznaivers feel the pain as well.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This is probably my favorite anime of the spring season. At first I was a little skeptical but as you continue with the show it becomes so much more interesting. The originality of the storyline and the connection with the characters were all amazing. I like the psychological approach of the story and characters. This definitely is a must watch.

Anime: The Asterisk Wars    Genre: Action, Romance, Harem

ASTERISK WARS  (GAKUSEN TOSHI ASUTARISUKU) SEASON 2

Rikka (Asterisk) is an academy that holds the largest stage for the integrated battle entertainment. Different students from many academies participate in this battle showing off their special skills. Season 2 shows Ayato and Julis participating as a team battling other teams to win.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

The first season was kind of cool. Nothing amazing. But the second season I will say they stepped it up. The battles were intense and the new characters presented served a good purpose. I did like the twist in adding a different story in there with the kidnapping and trying to make the main characters lose. You can’t help but like these characters. I wish I can fight in the battles as well.

image

Anime: Big Order Genre: Action, Supernatural, Shounen

BIG ORDER

Eiji Hoshimiya made a wish that caused the great destruction 10 years ago. He has powers called the order. Order users can use their ability to grant wishes with their powers called order. After the great destruction he refuses to use his power. When Eiji’s sister is kidnapped he is forced to use his order.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This show was very very interesting. The story is something you must pay attention to because of the complexity. The battles were not as intense as other shows but I did enjoy what they did present. Then the twist at the end I was like WHAT!! But can’t tell you what the twist was. Haha

Anime: Itachi Story (Naturto Shippuden) Genre: Action, Martial Arts, Superpower, Comedy, Shounen rating: 9.5/10

ITACHI STORY

Itachi Story shows Itachi’s life from when he joined the Ninja Academy to when he become an Anbu. You also sees how he betrays his clan.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

You just can’t go wrong with this anime, especially if you are an Itachi fan. I loved watching his life growing up and how he was really skilled and how he becomes an adult and makes that difficult decision to betray the Uchiha clan. This is def a must watch.

NOT TOO BAD – WORTH A WATCH

Anime: Joker Game Genre: Military, Seinen

JOKER GAME (Jōkā Gēmu)

In 1937 the beginning of world world II, the D agency is secretly established by Lt. Yuuki of the Imperial Army. The D agency consists of civilian university graduates who aces the superhuman selection test. These members are spies who go undercover to expose and steal information to help their country win the war.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I liked this anime. Again, I am a sucker for spy genres. I will say the missions you are on with the spies were real cool and interesting to watch. The cleverness of the D agency spies keeps you captured. The only thing about this show is that the episodes do not connect. It’s a different story each episode. So you are not left with cliffhangers anxious to see the next episode. So if you like spies I say give it a try.

Anime: Twin Star Exorcists (Sosei no Onmyoji) Genre: Supernatural, Fantasy, Action

TWIN STAR EXORCISTS (Sōsei no Onmyōji)

The story is about a 14 year old boy Rokuro who has many dreams, but one of them is not becoming an exorcist. He grew up in a house with many exorcists including his best friend Ryogo. They all believe he can be a great exorcist one day, but Rokuro just does not have that goal in life.
One day while he is out he runs into a mysterious girl the same age as him named Benio. He soon finds out that she is an exorcist when they transport into Magano which is a realm of Kegare (evil spirit monsters).
After their encounter, Rokuro and Benio both soon find out that they are The Twin Star Exorcists and are suited to marry. They are fated to have the prophesied child who will be the most powerful exorcist ever. Benio and Rokuro are both against this fate. Especially Rokuro because he has other goals in mind especially not to marry Benio or to become an exorcist.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Now this one I am back and forth with. It’s hard to rate because I’ve read the manga and the show did not stick to the story. But I will try to separate the two and speak about the anime. As for the anime it was cute. I mean the back and forth arguing between Benio and Rokuro. Watching them try and connect. The fight scenes were pretty cool. I kind of don’t like the whole going into the Magno world all the time to fight the Kegare. The show was funny I will say. If you like Shounen then this is definitely right for you.

Anime: Hundred Genre: Action, Mecha, Sci-fi, Ecchi, School, Romance, Harem

HUNDRED (Handoreddo)

On Earth there are mysterious life forms called Savages attacking the planet. Hundred is the only weapon that can destroy these savages.
Hayato is a teen boy that enters the battleship university to hopefully become a slayer. He becomes friends with Emile who reminds him of a past memory. On his first day he gets in to trouble and is challenged to a duel by the top fighter at the school the Queen.
Hayato’s new friend Emile practices with him to teach him how to use his hundred.
During his fight with the Queen, Hayato showcases special skills that a first time user shouldn’t have.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This show for me could have been way better if they didn’t have the Harem aspect involved. The fighting against the savages was really cool. The characters they introduced were all good. The storyline is not bad at all. It’s just I hate Harem and it put me off a lot because of how stupid it was and didn’t help the storyline. Ugh

Anime: Sakamoto Desu Ga (Haven’y you heard? Im Sakamto) Genre: Comedy, School

HAVEN’T YOU HEARD? I’M SAKAMOTO (Sakamoto desu ga)

Sakamoto is not your typical high school student. He is very handsome, extremely smart, and popular with the girls. Many of the male students do not like this. The males try every trick in the book to take down Sakamoto. But no matter what they do Sakamoto always gets out of every trick and looks cool no matter what.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Let’s be honest, this show has no purpose in life. All it has is a guy named Sakamoto who can do no wrong and is flawless. Now, because I said that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I couldn’t help but keep watching it. I meant it is hilarious because of how crazy it is. So I will say take caution because I don’t want to give false hope. Hahaha

DISLIKED

Anime: Flying Witch Genre: Comedy, Magic, Slice of life

FLYING WITCH (Furaingu Uitchi)

15 year old Makoto is a flying witch who leaves her town Yokohama with her black cat Chito. she moves to Aomori to live with her cousin Kei and Chinatsu. Makoto has limited powers. While there she continues to train being a witch.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Ummm where do I begin, I am not into much Slice of life anime. I can enjoy some but some I’m like uh No! This one was an Uh No one. It really didn’t do it for me. It had some cute parts but I had to force myself to watch it. Dying inside right now.

image

Anime: Ace Attorney Genre: Comedy

ACE ATTORNEY (Phoenix Wright and Gyakuten Saiban)

Naruhodō is a rookie lawyer who takes on a homicide case for his first case. We find out the defendant is an old childhood friend of his. He owes him a favor because if it wasn’t for him he would have never become a lawyer. This series follow Naruhodō in the courtroom proving he can become a great lawyer.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

At first I did enjoy the show. But then after everyone in the show was accused of murder I was done. I mean every character accused of murder?! The the finger pointing and the crazy fiascos in the court. Ugh let me not speak about the dumbest judge ever. What I did enjoy about the show was the episode when it went back to the lawyers childhoods and how they knew each other.

Anime: The Lost Village (Mayoiga) Genre: Drama, Mystery

THE LOST VILLAGE (Mayoiga)

A group of 30 men and women head out on a bus tour to head to a village called Nanakimura. This group is on this tour to leave their old lives to live a new life in Nanakimura. Nanakimura is considered an urban legend. When they arrive to this village it is vacant. Strange things begin to happen.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

God! This show had so much potential. I mean so much. But nope it went downhill ever since the first episode. 1. They had too many characters to follow, 2. Escaping their past and then their past still haunts them so outrageous and then 3. The story just didn’t make any since at all. It was all over the place. This is probably the worst anime ever in the history of anime.

Now it’s time to enjoy the summer anime.

HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SPRING ANIME???

BUNGOU STRAY DOGS – TEACHING THEM TO KILL: THEN TO DIE – EPISODE 8 REVIEW

image

The episode opens with a mysterious girl on the street by herself dressed in a red kimono. There is also a phone that keeps on ringing, but no one is answering. We see the girl walking up to Dazai and grabs his arm. Dazai is confused as to why she approaches him. The girl opens the phone that was ringing the whole time then there is a ray of purple light that surrounds the two of them.

The next day at the agency’s headquarters the group mentions that Dazai is missing. They come up with different excuses but do not find the situation to be dire. We then see Tanizaki is healed from his previous encounter with the port Mafia. He tells us of his ordeal with Dr. Yosano healing him. Then approaches Dr. Yosano looking for someone to go shopping with her. Everyone left the room except Atsushi

Dr. Yosano and Atsushi are shopping when the mysterious girl with the red kimono passes them. Atsushi and the girl both look back at each other. Because of this encounter Atsushi runs into a man on the street. The man becomes upset and Dr. Yosano tries to calm the situation. Unfortunately, the guy was still upset and didn’t understand the situation he was about to get into. He gets beaten up by the Dr.

After Dr. Yosano beats up the guy, her and Atsushi are on the subway train coming back from shopping. Their train has been hijacked and has bombs on it. The target is Atsushi. They come to realize they have to fight the hijackers to save the innocent passengers on the train. Dr. Yosano heads toward the front of the train and comes face to face with Kajii Motojirou a member of the Port Mafia. His ability is lemon bombs. They begin to fight and Kajii is using his bombs to the fullest injuring the Dr.

Atsushi heads to the rear of the train and he comes face to face with the mysterious girl in the red kimono. We find out her name is Izumi Kyouka and her ability is Demon Snow and she is an assassin for the Port Mafia. She receives a phone call from a man ordering her to kill anyone that tries to stop the bombs. Her and Atsushi begin to fight. He knows he has to save the passengers on the train. He then uses his tiger ability to defend himself. He finally gets Kyouka in a position where she is defeated.

We come back to Dr. Yosano’s fight, where you think she is dead but to come back fully healed and to beat the heck out of Kajii. We find out her ability is thou shall not die. Where she can heal anyone that has life threatening injuries. She defeats Kajii. She speaks on the train’s loud speaker and tell Atsushi that the bomb has a remote control that can stop it.

SPOILER:

Kyouka opens her kimono to show that she is wearing the bomb. Atsushi is upset that Kyouka has no feelings when she speaks and tries to help her. He takes the remote control and stops the bomb. Kyouka receives a phone call telling her the bomb will still go off. We then see Kyouka become filled with emotions saying she doesn’t want to kill anyone anymore. She then Jumps out the train and Atsushi jumps out to save her. He rips the bomb off her and it explodes.
We see them fall into a river. They both come out and Kyouka look at Atsushi with so much emotion.

The last scene of the episode we see who was on the other line of the phone and we also see Dazai hanging from chains.
THOUGHTS

This episode was a little different for me. I think they could have did better with the plot to get Atsushi. How did they know he was going to be on that train? Kyouka I feel they should have kept her character the mysterious assassin. That part could have been a major role in the show.
I am upset they took Dazai ugh he is my favorite. There were still some funny parts. I grew to love Dr. Yosano because I like crazy characters and she reminds me of a female version of Dr Stein from Soul Eater.

SPRING 2016 FAV AND LEAST FAV ANIME

image

It’s the spring time and it is the birth of new life as well as new anime. Many people have wrote about the spring seasons. But I’m writing my own thoughts. I don’t know how I have time to watch all this new anime but I find a way. Hahah
MY FAVORITE

BUNGOU STRAY DOGS – (Bungō Sutorei Doggusu) 3 episodes

Nakajima was kicked out of his orphanage and left on the street starving. He decides to rob the next person that walks by him. Instead he sees a man drowning in the river and saves him. The man he saves is named Dazai who is suicidal, then comes along Kunikida who is writing in a notepad. They are both members of the Armed Detective Agency. Due to Nakajima saving Dazai and getting to know each other Nakajima soon joins the agency. We also find out that Nakajima has powers as well.
THOUGHTS:

I really like this anime, it is hilarious, supernatural and a cool storyline. The first two episodes you are getting to know each of the characters, you see the hilarious side to them. Then Episode three it gets real. They go to battle. You then find out the main plot of the storyline. I can not wait to see how this turns out.

TWIN STAR EXORCISTS (Sōsei no Onmyōji) 3 episodes

The story is about a 14 year old boy Rokuro who has many dreams, but one of them is not becoming an exorcist. He grew up in a house with many exorcists including his best friend Ryogo. They all believe he can be a great exorcist one day, but Rokuro just does not have that goal in life.

They are fated to have the prophesied child who will be the most powerful exorcist ever. Benio and Rokuro are both against this fate. Especially Rokuro because he has other goals in mind especially not to marry Benio or to become an exorcist.
THOUGHTS:

I’ve been reading the manga before the anime came out. It’s not doing so bad staying true to the manga. I like this series because I am a fan of Shounen anime. I can’t get enough. The typical boy that doesn’t want to do something but they are really good at it. Many people try to convince him to do it, then finally he gets into it again. Typical story but I love it. It’s funny and action packed. I’m just happy to see the manga come to life.

JOKER GAME (Jōkā Gēmu) 3 episodes

In 1937 the beginning of world world II, the D agency is secretly established by Lt. Yuuki of the Imperial Army. The D agency consists of civilian university graduates who aces the superhuman selection test. These members are spies who go undercover to expose and steal information to help their country win the war.
THOUGHTS:

I am a sucker for spy genres. I don’t know what it is about spies but I love them. When I saw the posters for this I knew right away I was going to love it. And when I watched the first episode I was hooked. The characters are all mysterious and cool. I like how this show is like a real game. I love the fact it takes place during World War II. It has so many stories they can come up with especially with how many countries that were involved in the war. Definitely a must watch.
NOT SURE YET

HUNDRED (Handoreddo) 3 episodes

On Earth there are mysterious life forms called Savages attacking the planet. Hundred is the only weapon that can destroy these savages.
Hayato is a teen boy that enters the battleship university to hopefully become a slayer. He becomes friends with Emile who reminds him of a past memory. On his first day he gets in to trouble and is challenged to a duel by the top fighter at the school the Queen.
Hayato’s new friend Emile practices with him to teach him how to use his hundred.
During his fight with the Queen, Hayato showcases special skills that a first time user shouldn’t have.
THOUGHTS:

Not sure about this series because I like the characters, I like the fighting scenes and I love the female’s outfits. But this series kind of reminds me of Asterisk Wars. The storyline kind of doesn’t grab me like other anime. I guess I will continue watching and I will see what happens.

KIZNAIVER (Kizunaībā) 3 episodes

THOUGHTS:

The first two episodes had me like hmmm I don’t know about this. It seemed interesting but kind of slow paced for me. I didn’t really care for any characters except Katsuhira and Noriko. Then the Third episode was really good and had me reconsider. I have another character I like Yoshiharu. He seems super cool and mysterious. So I will keep this in my not sure section until I see more episodes.

HAVEN’T YOU HEARD? I’M SAKAMOTO (Sakamoto desu ga) 2 episodes

Sakamoto is not your typical high school student. He is very handsome, extremely smart, and popular with the girls. Many of the male students do not like this. The males try every trick in the book to take down Sakamoto. But no matter what they do Sakamoto always gets out of every trick and looks cool no matter what.
THOUGHTS:

Sakamoto is definitely a great and good looking guy. The show is very funny. But I feel like it will not going anywhere besides that. I do laugh when I watch it because I can’t help it. But I won’t name it the best anime,
LEAST FAVORITE

FLYING WITCH (Furaingu Uitchi) 3 episodes

15 year old Makoto is a flying witch who leaves her town Yokohama with her black cat Chito. she moves to Aomori to live with her cousin Kei and Chinatsu. Makoto has limited powers. While there she continues to train being a witch.
THOUGHTS:

I am not really that much of a fan of Slice of Life. I can watch a few and enjoy it. But this series is just pointless. It has no goal to the storyline. Nothing is being accomplished. It’s not even funny. Makoto comes to town and then what? Nothing! The only thing I enjoy in the series is Chinatsu’s reaction to all the strange things happening around her. I’m going to continue watching but I don’t know how long I can hang on.

ACE ATTORNEY (Phoenix Wright and Gyakuten Saiban) 4 episodes

Naruhodō is a rookie lawyer who takes on a homicide case for his first case. We find out the defendant is an old childhood friend of his. He owes him a favor because if it wasn’t for him he would have never become a lawyer. This series follow Naruhodō in the courtroom proving he can become a great lawyer.
THOUGHTS:

This series is back and forth for me. The first episode I was kind of interested. It seemed really good. It was different and it was based on lawyers. After the first episode it went down hill from there. Every episode they are finger pointing. Then everything is way over the top. The story took a twist but it wasn’t a really good twist. Plus Naruhodō wins every case. I’ll continue watching but I really hope it gets better.

THE LOST VILLAGE (Mayoiga) 4 episodes

A group of 30 men and women head out on a bus tour to head to a village called Nanakimura. This group is on this tour to leave their old lives to live a new life in Nanakimura. Nanakimura is considered an urban legend. When they arrive to this village it is vacant. Strange things begin to happen.
THOUGHTS:

I was all for this anime when I saw the poster. It looked so interesting. Then I watch, and let’s just say I am very disappointed. It just doesn’t have the suspense I thought it would have. There are way too many characters too keep up with. I have my favorites but they do not get enough screen time because they are too busy giving all 30 characters screen time. Let’s just say very disappointed.

Which spring anime are you watching? And which ones are your favorites?
