Spring 2018 anime – final thoughts

Now that the spring season has ended its time for my final thoughts.  Check it out!!

Anime: My Hero Academia Genre: Adventure, comedy, fantasy, Shounen

Izuku Midoriya dreams of becoming a super hero but was born without any superpowers in a world where it’s the norm. His favorite super hero All Might discovers the passion in Midoriya and shares his powers with him. He enrolls Midoriya into a High school that trains students to become superheroes.

The third season did not disappoint at all. The only disappointing thing was the season ending. I was ready for more episodes. I have to say the action was there. The new villains they presented were great. They were evil as can be and I liked that a lot. There was one villain All for one that was a real match for All Might. It took all of All might’s powers to defeat him. Midoriya was just as brave and passionate about his friends. He still has that Shounen main character personality where they will never give up on their dreams. All in all I was super happy.

Anime: Tokyo Ghoul Re Genre: Action, Horror

Tokyo Ghoul Re is a sequel to Tokyo Ghoul. It follows Haise Sasaki who has been assigned a certain mission with his team known as the Quinx. They are a team of CCG investigators who are half human and half ghouls created by the CCG. While on his mission Haise battles his inner demon known as Kaneki who wants to be released.

I wish the story wasn’t as confusing for many fans. In the beginning many fans didn’t know what happened. Why Kaneki was Haise all of a sudden. Not many people read the manga so it was a bit confusing and hard for some to adjust too. I did have to say I did enjoy this season. It wasn’t great like season 1 and 2. I think those storylines were much better. What I did like about season 3 are the villains. They had way more crazy villains and they were real villains. I’m just in love with bad guys. The action was def there. (Spoiler) My fav part is when a Kaneki comes back. I screamed my head off. I still found this season to be enjoyable.

Anime: Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online Genre: Game, Action

It follows a girl Karen Kohiruimaki who always felt different than others in the real world. She found it hard to make friends with girls her age. Her world changes once she is introduced to VR and Gun Gale Online. While she is in GGO she feels alive and her true self, but can she make friends in GGO?

This show really took me by surprise. It was one of my favs this season. Probably my 2nd favorite after My Hero Academia. The main character Lenn was freaking awesome. I loved her tough and yet cute ways. She was so on point in Gun Gale Online. She was no joke. She wasn’t that sick and sad female character. Another character I liked was M who was really tough in the game but outside the game was a cute guy with a diff personality. But my fav character was Pitohui. Again, I love villains and she was super crazy and dangerous. She played no games except this game haha but she was super tough and not to be messed with. The action and gun fire was very entertaining in this series. A very fun series to watch.

Anime: Food Wars: The Third Plate Genre: Competition, Comedy, Food

Food wars follows a boy named Sōma Yukihira who grew up in his father, Jōichiro Yukihira’s restaurant. His father taught him all about cooking and they would compete against each other in cooking battles. Every time Sōma would lose. Hahah One day Sōma’s father receives a job to cook abroad and around the world. So he closes shop and then enrolls Sōma in to an elite culinary school where only 10% of students manage to graduate. Here at this school Sōma meets many student who are all skilled at cooking. Many of them each specializing in something specific for cooking such a meat, curry, Italian cuisine and etc. While in the school the kids are faced with many cooking challenges and battles as well. You witness Sōma developing as a chef and reaching his goal of becoming better than his father one day.

They did well this season for Food Wars. The first part of Season 3 I wasn’t too entertained. It was kind of boring, but the second part they really stepped it up. They had the rebels vs central. Yukihira was definitely a competitor in the cooking world. He is also a team player with his dormitory members. The food looked so amazing I was drooling through this whole series. I really need to learn to cook. But I really liked how the teachers were trying to bring down Yukihira and his dorm mates but were unable to because they stuck together and studied really hard to stay. This second part of season 3 was really a good one.

Anime: Losterage Conflated Wixoss Genre: Drama, Game, Psychological

Homura returns to her childhood hometown Ikebukuro. She starts to attend high school but doesn’t fit in. She sees other kids are playing a card game called WIXOSS and decides to learn to play. She hopes this will help her get friends. She buys a deck from the card store and opens the pack. A girl on the card begins to move and speaks “welcome selector”. A selector are players chosen to battle for 5 coins that holds all their memories. Every fight they lose they lose a coin. Every fight they win they gain a coin. If they win all 5 coins they can leave the game. If they lose all 5 coins then they lose their memories.

Something about this show I have a hate love relationship. It has some good moments when they are on the battlefield. But something about the story and the characters doesn’t keep me interested. Usually you can watch a series and say I really like this character. There are no memorable characters. Then the storyline doesn’t have me saying “omg can’t believe that happened”or “ I can’t wait until the next episode.” The show is entertaining but not an omg you must watch.

Anime: Hinamatsuri Genre: science fiction, supernatural, comedy, slice of life

One day while in his apartment Yoshifumi Nitta a Yakuza member has a mysterious girl appear. She has telekinetic powers and is named Hina. Natta ends up taking care Hina and we follow their adventures together.

At first this show was funny and kind of entertaining. Then Hina and the other characters started to become really annoying. It was becoming really unbearable to watch. It was pretty much a slice of life show which I am not a fan of slice of life. The storyline really didn’t have a climax. It was just a comedy that became annoying to me. It just wasn’t funny anymore.

At Shujin Academy there are a group of vigilante students who use their psychic powers to eliminate corruptive desires within people’s hearts.

I just couldn’t bear to watch anymore. It was too all over the place for me. The main character was super cute and that was the original reason why I was still watching. That alone just wasn’t working anymore.

Anime: Devil Line Genre: Dark Fantasy, Vampire

Anzai who is half devil (vampire) is part of the shadowy police task force saves college student Tsukusa from an attack by a devil. Anzai continues to protect/guard Tsukasa after the attack. They begin to fall for each other and it tests Anzai’s devil side to not hurt her.

After episodes 3 I died. It was horrible. The characters were weird and annoying. Just let it go.

So those are my final thoughts. What are your thoughts on the Spring season???

  1. Great post I thought My hero Academia was amazing as last two seasons and thanks for saving me form watching persona for now someone recommended it to me and I am sceptical about it too so am just going to push it down my list of things to watch for now

  2. I have just started to watch season three of My Hero Academia. Looks like it will match season two’s levels of action. Can’t believe Devil’s Lane got an anime adaptation. I read a bit of the manga and it was terrible. Persona 5 is an excellent video game, but it sounds like transferring such a lengthy RPG into a one season anime didn’t work out.

  3. I’m surprised about your choice about Hinamatsuri, as that was one of my favorites this past season! However, I get that the comedy elements can be a turn off for some. That’s why we all have different opinions about things though lol.

  4. I have pretty much missed the entire line up for last season because of my hiatus. But..I am catching up to Sword Art Online Alternative…and I am quite enjoying it. With only 4 more episodes to go, I can honestly say that this is a great show 😊😊
