The spring shows are wrapping up. I wanted to give my final thoughts on the shows I’ve watched this season. I will not aim to have any spoilers. 😛

Anime: Bungou Stray Dogs Genre: Supernatural, Mystery, Seinen

BUNGOU STRAY DOGS – (Bungō Sutorei Doggusu)

Nakajima was kicked out of his orphanage and left on the street starving. He decides to rob the next person that walks by him. Instead he sees a man drowning in the river and saves him. The man he saves is named Dazai who is suicidal, then comes along Kunikida who is writing in a notepad. They are both members of the Armed Detective Agency. This agency is a special task force that handles crimes that the police or military can not handle. This agency’s members all have special powers. Due to Nakajima saving Dazai and getting to know each other Nakajima soon joins the agency. We also find out that Nakajima has powers as well.

Listen, this is not the “omg you must watch anime”, But I did really enjoy it. It was funny and some action as well. I love the power the characters have. Some things I will point out is that the story was kind of all over the place. I get the Mafia is trying to get Nakajima but too many characters were introduced and you didn’t get to connect with the bad characters. I’m all about bad guys and they barely touched upon the bad guys. But all in all you will laugh for sure.

Anime: Kiznaiver Genre: Sci-fi, Drama

KIZNAIVER (Kizunaībā)

Agata Katsuhira is a high school teen who is unable to feel pain. He was constantly beaten up growing up. But he still didn’t feel any pain. One day a classmate Tenga comes to his rescue and saves him from the bullies. One day Katsuhira is approached by a mysterious emotionless girl named Noriko who tells him that he was selected to become a Kiznaiver because he is unable to feel pain.
They then both connect through Kizuna which allows them to feel each other’s pain. Soon he is then connected with 7 fellow classmates who lives would never link. They all become Kiznaivers.
The goal for Kizuna is to create a peaceful world connecting people through. If one Kiznaiver is wounded the other Kiznaivers feel the pain as well.

This is probably my favorite anime of the spring season. At first I was a little skeptical but as you continue with the show it becomes so much more interesting. The originality of the storyline and the connection with the characters were all amazing. I like the psychological approach of the story and characters. This definitely is a must watch.

Anime: The Asterisk Wars    Genre: Action, Romance, Harem

Rikka (Asterisk) is an academy that holds the largest stage for the integrated battle entertainment. Different students from many academies participate in this battle showing off their special skills. Season 2 shows Ayato and Julis participating as a team battling other teams to win.

The first season was kind of cool. Nothing amazing. But the second season I will say they stepped it up. The battles were intense and the new characters presented served a good purpose. I did like the twist in adding a different story in there with the kidnapping and trying to make the main characters lose. You can’t help but like these characters. I wish I can fight in the battles as well.

Anime: Big Order Genre: Action, Supernatural, Shounen

Eiji Hoshimiya made a wish that caused the great destruction 10 years ago. He has powers called the order. Order users can use their ability to grant wishes with their powers called order. After the great destruction he refuses to use his power. When Eiji’s sister is kidnapped he is forced to use his order.

This show was very very interesting. The story is something you must pay attention to because of the complexity. The battles were not as intense as other shows but I did enjoy what they did present. Then the twist at the end I was like WHAT!! But can’t tell you what the twist was. Haha

Anime: Itachi Story (Naturto Shippuden) Genre: Action, Martial Arts, Superpower, Comedy, Shounen rating: 9.5/10

Itachi Story shows Itachi’s life from when he joined the Ninja Academy to when he become an Anbu. You also sees how he betrays his clan.

You just can’t go wrong with this anime, especially if you are an Itachi fan. I loved watching his life growing up and how he was really skilled and how he becomes an adult and makes that difficult decision to betray the Uchiha clan. This is def a must watch.

Anime: Joker Game Genre: Military, Seinen

JOKER GAME (Jōkā Gēmu)

In 1937 the beginning of world world II, the D agency is secretly established by Lt. Yuuki of the Imperial Army. The D agency consists of civilian university graduates who aces the superhuman selection test. These members are spies who go undercover to expose and steal information to help their country win the war.

I liked this anime. Again, I am a sucker for spy genres. I will say the missions you are on with the spies were real cool and interesting to watch. The cleverness of the D agency spies keeps you captured. The only thing about this show is that the episodes do not connect. It’s a different story each episode. So you are not left with cliffhangers anxious to see the next episode. So if you like spies I say give it a try.

Anime: Twin Star Exorcists (Sosei no Onmyoji) Genre: Supernatural, Fantasy, Action

TWIN STAR EXORCISTS (Sōsei no Onmyōji)

The story is about a 14 year old boy Rokuro who has many dreams, but one of them is not becoming an exorcist. He grew up in a house with many exorcists including his best friend Ryogo. They all believe he can be a great exorcist one day, but Rokuro just does not have that goal in life.
One day while he is out he runs into a mysterious girl the same age as him named Benio. He soon finds out that she is an exorcist when they transport into Magano which is a realm of Kegare (evil spirit monsters).
After their encounter, Rokuro and Benio both soon find out that they are The Twin Star Exorcists and are suited to marry. They are fated to have the prophesied child who will be the most powerful exorcist ever. Benio and Rokuro are both against this fate. Especially Rokuro because he has other goals in mind especially not to marry Benio or to become an exorcist.

Now this one I am back and forth with. It’s hard to rate because I’ve read the manga and the show did not stick to the story. But I will try to separate the two and speak about the anime. As for the anime it was cute. I mean the back and forth arguing between Benio and Rokuro. Watching them try and connect. The fight scenes were pretty cool. I kind of don’t like the whole going into the Magno world all the time to fight the Kegare. The show was funny I will say. If you like Shounen then this is definitely right for you.

Anime: Hundred Genre: Action, Mecha, Sci-fi, Ecchi, School, Romance, Harem

HUNDRED (Handoreddo)

On Earth there are mysterious life forms called Savages attacking the planet. Hundred is the only weapon that can destroy these savages.
Hayato is a teen boy that enters the battleship university to hopefully become a slayer. He becomes friends with Emile who reminds him of a past memory. On his first day he gets in to trouble and is challenged to a duel by the top fighter at the school the Queen.
Hayato’s new friend Emile practices with him to teach him how to use his hundred.
During his fight with the Queen, Hayato showcases special skills that a first time user shouldn’t have.

This show for me could have been way better if they didn’t have the Harem aspect involved. The fighting against the savages was really cool. The characters they introduced were all good. The storyline is not bad at all. It’s just I hate Harem and it put me off a lot because of how stupid it was and didn’t help the storyline. Ugh

Anime: Sakamoto Desu Ga (Haven’y you heard? Im Sakamto) Genre: Comedy, School

HAVEN’T YOU HEARD? I’M SAKAMOTO (Sakamoto desu ga)

Sakamoto is not your typical high school student. He is very handsome, extremely smart, and popular with the girls. Many of the male students do not like this. The males try every trick in the book to take down Sakamoto. But no matter what they do Sakamoto always gets out of every trick and looks cool no matter what.

Let’s be honest, this show has no purpose in life. All it has is a guy named Sakamoto who can do no wrong and is flawless. Now, because I said that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I couldn’t help but keep watching it. I meant it is hilarious because of how crazy it is. So I will say take caution because I don’t want to give false hope. Hahaha

Anime: Flying Witch Genre: Comedy, Magic, Slice of life

FLYING WITCH (Furaingu Uitchi)

15 year old Makoto is a flying witch who leaves her town Yokohama with her black cat Chito. she moves to Aomori to live with her cousin Kei and Chinatsu. Makoto has limited powers. While there she continues to train being a witch.

Ummm where do I begin, I am not into much Slice of life anime. I can enjoy some but some I’m like uh No! This one was an Uh No one. It really didn’t do it for me. It had some cute parts but I had to force myself to watch it. Dying inside right now.

Anime: Ace Attorney Genre: Comedy

ACE ATTORNEY (Phoenix Wright and Gyakuten Saiban)

Naruhodō is a rookie lawyer who takes on a homicide case for his first case. We find out the defendant is an old childhood friend of his. He owes him a favor because if it wasn’t for him he would have never become a lawyer. This series follow Naruhodō in the courtroom proving he can become a great lawyer.

At first I did enjoy the show. But then after everyone in the show was accused of murder I was done. I mean every character accused of murder?! The the finger pointing and the crazy fiascos in the court. Ugh let me not speak about the dumbest judge ever. What I did enjoy about the show was the episode when it went back to the lawyers childhoods and how they knew each other.

Anime: The Lost Village (Mayoiga) Genre: Drama, Mystery

A group of 30 men and women head out on a bus tour to head to a village called Nanakimura. This group is on this tour to leave their old lives to live a new life in Nanakimura. Nanakimura is considered an urban legend. When they arrive to this village it is vacant. Strange things begin to happen.

God! This show had so much potential. I mean so much. But nope it went downhill ever since the first episode. 1. They had too many characters to follow, 2. Escaping their past and then their past still haunts them so outrageous and then 3. The story just didn’t make any since at all. It was all over the place. This is probably the worst anime ever in the history of anime.

Now it’s time to enjoy the summer anime.

  1. You watched quite a bit of shows for the spring glad to see I wasn’t the only one. You have some on their I enjoyed and some I didnt but I agree with the ones you disliked. Had no interest in ace attorney. Stopped watching mayoiga as soon as it went down hill. Some of the ones I’ve been following I hopefully will finish up this week as I only have a few episodes left for certain shows. You update your blog constantly something which I need to learn consistency. Also saw bungou stray dogs was your favorite. A lot of people have enjoyed it and its a show I’m still behind on but seeing your post and everyone talking about it has motivated me to finish it. Good blog post as always.

  2. Hey, awesome post! It would be really cool if perhaps we could collaborate on a feature in the future? Perhaps you could write a guest post for our site and we could do something for yours? Just a thought. Either way keep making awesome content!

  3. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to keep watching Twin Star Exorcists or not. I do want to finish Sakamoto. I agree that there isn’t much to the show but it is fun. Thanks for your wrap up.

  4. Thanks so much for sharing this review of the animes. I really want to watch Itachi’s Story now. He was my favorite character in the Naruto universe, so I’m happy he got his own anime. lol It reminds me of Levi from Attack on Titan. Some of these anime men just get so popular 🙂

  5. Sousei no Onmyouji is still airing, so I don’t want to judge it too much right now (though I have a ton of issues with it, it’s still fun mostly ).

Heh, I enjoyed most of the same stuff but also I absolutely loved Flying Witch. It was like the perfect blend of ARIA with magic. The world was super interesting to me and Chinatsu was one of the most realistic depictions of a child in anime. Music wss also fantastic. But you mentioned you don’t really like slice of life, so I can’t blame you for not liking it. It’s basically the textbook definition of slice of life lol.

For me, most the shows I really enjoy are continuing into summer (Re:ZERO). I probably won’t remember much from this season in a few years, sadly.
